Final fill up - stage 3
Phoebe has just had her final fill up of her neck expander. The skin over the port site seems to have give up the ghost somewhat. Phoebe has been complaining, the last 10 days or so, of discomfort with the skin behind her left ear. At first we thought she had an ear infection, but it would seem the poor old skin covering the port has had enough of the weekly needling it gets. The port has been in there since February and has served two cheeks expanders and now a neck expander so it is long over due to be removed.
The neck expander comes out on Wed 6th September. The expanded skin will be grafted from Phoebe's neck to her nose. Other grafted strips will be inserted under Phoebe's lower eye lids to reduce the tension in them. Currently neither of Phoebe's lower eye lids touch her eyes, although having said that alot of progress has been made by (3 times a day) massages of Bio Oil into the skin under Phoebe's eye. As Phoebe picked her face quite badly after her last operation we have agreed with the surgeon that she should be quite heavily bandaged after this operation. We have been told that about 5-6 days post operation we will have to sedate Phoebe and change the dressings. Given her reaction to the commonly used sedative drugs, this is going to be interesting - still we will cross that bridge when we get to it.
We have no fill up this Wednesday, instead we are going to dress up as a fairy and go to a party instead - so much better, especially when you have Auntie Belinda's fairy outfit to wear.

1st fill up - round 3
Seal took Phoebe last Wednesday. I was feeling a little 'delicate' to attend the first fill up for round 3. Funny, as I had been fine for the last round of fill ups. Anyway I soon realised that being at home clock watching and wondering what is going on, is far worse than being there, so this week am going too.
Phoebe was not a happy bunny at fill up time. She now knows what is coming and cries as soon as we lift her onto our lap. Seal was too 'distracted' himself to find out how much fluid went in, but looking at her neck expander I would say 20mls. I'm getting quite the expert don't you know.
Phoebe bounded through the front door, upon her return, proud as punch with green lillipop held high to show me.
That's my gorgeous girl.
